Have you ever found encouragement from a popular coach or successful and inspiring person, like Tony Robbins or even Oprah?
A word of caution, my friend. Be careful with whom you are seeking encouragement because there are a lot of subtle deceptions out there that you might believe to be the truth.
In this episode, I dive into three pieces of unbiblical advice that popular coaches and successful and inspiring people offer, along with some verses to help you sharpen your discernment so that you will not be deceived.
So grab your Bible, a pen & a notebook, and let’s dig in!
Be aware of the three encouraging yet unbiblical pieces of advice that most coaches and gurus offer you so you won’t fall victim to them.
Get rooted in the true foundation of truth, so you will not be easily influenced by the lies of the world.
Identify the beliefs that you subscribe to and ask the Lord to show you where your thinking is flawed so you can live the life that God has called you to live.
“Listen to counsel and receive instruction so that you may be wise later in life. Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” – Proverbs 19:20-21

02.26 – A quick little background about me as a life coach.
05.25 – The purpose of this episode is to share that the popular pieces of advice that coaches and gurus are spreading are not found in Scripture.
06.58 – The three of the most common unbiblical pieces of advice that popular coaches offer.
07.58 – Unbiblical Advice #1: Follow Your Heart – Once You Trust Yourself, You Can Trust Everyone – Martha Beck (Oprah’s Life Coach)
What the Word says: “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; Who can understand it?” – Jeremiah 17:9 ESV
11.30 – Unbiblical Advice #2: Love Yourself No Matter What – Oprah
What the Word says: Godlessness in the Last Days (2 Timothy 3:1-7 ESV)
3 But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. 2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,3 heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, 4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. 6 For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions,7 always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth.
17.39 – Unbiblical Advice #3: Create Your Vision – Tony Robbins
What the Word says:
“Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” – Proverbs 19:21
“Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” – Luke 22:42
22.33 – A few reminders:
It’s very important to get in the Word and continue to sharpen that sword.
Search scripture and compare what you’re hearing to the Word of God. The Bereans Search the Scriptures
10 As soon as it was night, the brothers and sisters sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. Upon arrival, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. 11 The people here were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica since they received the word with eagerness and examined[a] the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.
Seek wise counsel. Pastor, husband (if he is rooted in the Word), spiritual mother, and other sisters in Christ, Life group/Bible study group.
Listen to counsel and receive instruction so that you may be wise later in life. Proverbs 19:20
It is not wrong to pray for something in particular. But it is wrong to want a thing more than you want God’s will to be done in your life.
God’s will always prevails. Don’t try to control the outcome of a situation, or set up your plans at the cost of not surrendering to God’s purpose.
Not all the good things the world presents to you are good according to God. Use the Word to discern what is good.
