Her Renewed Strength Podcast | Episode 58
Have you ever been in a relationship where you were continuously trying to please the other and even compromising your morals? How about those relationships that trigger your anxiety or strain you?
Biblically, there are two kinds of relationship: first is vertical, your relationship with God, and the second is horizontal, your relationship with other people. This episode focuses on the horizontal relationship, which is the relationship with others. I have four journal prompts for you that will help you create healthy relationships that honor God.
Why you’ve got to check out today’s episode:
-
Be clear about the foundation you have in place for building healthy relationships that honor God.
-
Get to know what it means to speak the truth and to love others as God wants you to.
-
Examine your relationships to determine if they are pleasing to God, and if not, make them right.
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important command. The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.” – Matthew 22:37-40 CSB

03.22 – The world will tell you that loving yourself will help you better love others. However, scripture says something entirely different.
04.31 – The commandments teach us how to be in the right relationship with God and with others. (Exodus Chapter 20)

“Do not have other gods besides me.” Loving yourself more than God or others, prioritizing yourself, and being in a place of complete focus on yourself is essentially making yourself your own little god. Similarly, others can become little gods to you when you prioritize their approval over that of God.
06.28 – The apostle Paul is teaching us how to live like Christ, which, in turn, allows us to honor Him in our relationships.
-
“We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves. 2 Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. 3 For Christ did not please himself, but as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached you fell on me.” (Romans 15:1-3)
08:36 – 4 Journal Prompts:

What are your decisions rooted in? The desire to glorify God or win someone else’s approval?

When are you tempted to avoid conflict or hard conversations? When are you trying to appeal to others and win their approval? When are you seeking to stay comfortable and avoid temporary suffering?
-
When are you emboldened to share the Good News and glorify God?
