What’s up, friend?

Are you anxious about doing something that God has asked you to do because you feel unequipped?

Today, I am sharing three tools the enemy is using to make you anxious and keep you from carrying out the good works the Lord has prepared for you to do. Some of you are losing the spiritual battle when it comes to some of this, specifically because some of the things we think are normal are just disordered behavior patterns that are COMMON. Common and normal are not the same, which makes these 3 things all the more dangerous.

So, worry no more because I will not only identify these tools, but I’ll also give you three Bible passages (short stories) to motivate and encourage you to fight back.

04.00 –Tool #1: IMPOSTER SYNDROME

• It keeps you from using your gifts and doing the thing that the Lord is leading you to do

Bible Verse/Passage #1: Exodus 4:10-15
10 But Moses said to the Lord, “Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue.”11 Then the Lord said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the Lord? 12 Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.” 13 But he said, “Oh, my Lord, please send someone else.” 14 Then the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses and he said, “Is there not Aaron, your brother, the Levite? I know that he can speak well. Behold, he is coming out to meet you, and when he sees you, he will be glad in his heart. 15 You shall speak to him and put the words in his mouth, and I will be with your mouth and with his mouth and will teach you both what to do.

Don’t worry! God will equip you. You just have to trust Him.

06.52 – Tool #2: PERFECTIONISM

• You won’t do things unless they look a certain way so you aren’t taking action 

Why is this? For a lot of you, who are like me, it’s fear or judgment, which stems from some of your childhood experiences w/ having unrealistically high expectations & things like that. This is just one of those things we see the enemy using to trip us up because our gaze shifts from focusing on what God wants from us to what we think others might criticize us for as we walk in obedience to the Lord.

Bible Verse/Passage #2: Galatians 1:10
10 For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant[a] of Christ.

Stop trying to make things look perfect. You’re not Jesus! Get it together. 

09.38 – Tool #3: PROCRASTINATION

• You are waiting until you are in the mood or for the right time or for the last minute to be obedient

Bible Verse/Passage #2: Jonah 1
In Jonah chapter 1, we see Jonah run from God after receiving his prophetic mandate. He goes through all the unnecessary struggles – boarding a ship to the other side of the known world, going through a storm, getting tossed off the ship, and being swallowed and spit up by a whale – the Lord provided. All that, just to end up going to Nineveh to carry out the assignment YHWH gave him. He did so reluctantly and he still had to endure the pain and anger he was trying to avoid.

• Pray that the Spirit would give you – focus, courage, strength – whatever you need to get through your anxiety

• Get in the Word every day

• Join a community of believers who can keep you accountable and walk with you in life

• Confess and repent
